An interim tax bill is primarily issued when you have built a new home, subdivided your property or when improvements are made to an existing residence. This is an additional tax bill – not to be confused with the yearly Borough and County Tax bill issued in February or the School tax bill issued each July 1st.
Hatboro Borough residents receive a homestead tax reduction on their PRIMARY RESIDENCE ONLY. All applications for the homestead exclusion must be received by the Board of Assessments on or before March 1 to be eligible for the reduction on the school tax bill. You are not required to file each year once you have been approved for the homestead exclusion. You would need to re-apply if you move or the title of the property changes name. This relief is available to ALL homeowners who claim their Hatboro property as their primary residence. There are NO age or income restrictions.
Information and the application can be found here (https://www.montcopa.org/464/Board-of-Assessment-Appeals)or on the Resources/Forms page.

To appeal your property taxes, you must first determine if you are in fact paying a higher property tax than other homeowners whose homes have a value equal to yours. If after an apples to apples comparison, you are paying the same or less than other homeowners in your area, you will probably not be eligible to receive any property tax relief.
After you find the market value, compare it to the sales price of comparable homes that have recently sold in your area to see if the values match. Adjustments may need to be made for features of the sold listings that differ from yours. But in the end, if you find that the true market value of your home is significantly lower than the property tax assessor’s perceived market value, then you should proceed with a property tax appeal.
Property tax appeal forms are at the Montgomerty County Board of Assessment Appeals (https://www.montgomerycountypa.gov/464/Board-of-Assessment-Appeals)website, or by clicking on this link: [Application to Appeal a Property Assessment](https://www.montgomerycountypa.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1158/Assessment-Appeal-Form?bidId=). There is a fee to have your appeal reviewed, so make sure you have done your homework and can substantiate your appeal.
Deadline for filing an appeal is August 1st to be effective for the following year.
All property owners are required to pay an annual refuse fee for trash, recycling, and yard waste services rendered by the Borough of Hatboro. These fees cover the cost of collection per property, a 5% admin fee, as well as a $50.00 capital fee that will help fund future trash or recycling equipment. The current fee schedule can be found on the Hatboro Borough Website (www.myhatboro.org)
